Geography Situated in the Indian Ocean are 115 tropical islands, lying just south of the Equator they are spread over an area of 1 300 000 sq kms. The Inner Islands are mainly granitic and are situated on the Seychelles Plateau. Mahe, Praslin and La Digue with their neighbouring islans are the most frequented. Fregate, Dennis and Bird Islands, a little more isolated, also fall within the Inner Islands. Outer Islands, located beyond the Plateau, consists mainly of low-lying sand cays and coralatolls.
