Millions of years ago as India gradually drifted away from the Africa continent, the Seychelles Archipelago remained poised in magnificent isolation in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Arab sailors first arrived in the waters as early as the 9th century. However, it was the French who were first to be seduced by the beauty of the islands and established a settlement in the mid 18th century.

Geography
Situated in the Indian Ocean are 115 tropical islands, lying just south of the Equator they are spread over an area of 1 300 000 sq kms. The Inner Islands are mainly granitic and are situated on the Seychelles Plateau. Mahe, Praslin and La Digue with their neighbouring islans are the most frequented. Fregate, Dennis and Bird Islands, a little more isolated, also fall within the Inner Islands. Outer Islands, located beyond the Plateau, consists mainly of low-lying sand cays and coralatolls. Desroche and Alphonse offer accommodation here. |
Access
 Air Seychelles operates a non-stop service into Mahe (SEZ) from London, Paris, Rome, Singapore, Mauritius and Johannesburg. Air France, Air Mauritius, Kenya Airways, Emirates, Air Austral, Qatar and Condor also fly into Mahe. There is a constant domestic service to Praslin, while charter flights service Fregate, Bird, Desroche and Dennis.
Time to Travel
Seychelles enjoys a glorious tropical climate all year round, and lying outside the cyclone belt, has no weather extremes. Rain falls in Jan & Feb and SE Trade winds bring lively seas to the SE Coast between May ans September. The NW Trade winds visit during Oct to March bringing calm seas.

- Mahe is the largest island with the main concentration of accommodations near Beau Vallon Beach. Ask us to recommend isolated guest houses.
- Vehicles, scooters and bicycles may be rented for exploring on your own or make use of our knowledgeable guides.
- Praslin offers the best beaches and a number of good modern resort hotels.
