Flamingo Bay

Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is located in the province of Inhambane, 485Km north of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. From the historical city of Inhambane, it is just a 30 minute drive through local villages and groves of tropical coconut forests that line the route to Flamingo Bay Water Lodge.

Flamingo Bay Water Lodge has a unique design - it was built half on an island and half in the water. This lodge is the only one of its kind in Africa. This beautifully designed lodge on stilts in the water is so serene and tranquil you feel as though you have stepped into another world. Imagine the water lapping under your room, soothing away your stress, imagine the moon shining over the water as you enjoy a relaxing moment on your private balcony, imagine nothing to disturb you other than the sound of the ocean.

The main building is set apart from the rooms but connected by a wooden walkway. The main building houses the reception, restaurant, bar, lounge, curio shop and pool. You can walk or catch a ride on the circulating golf cart to get access back and forth to your room. The luxury water chalets are spacious and well appointed with balcony, wide opening sliding doors and air-conditioning. The chalets and furniture are constructed from beautiful local hardwoods from Mozambique. Each chalet is situated on stilts in the crystal clear tidal waters of Inhambane Bay.

Sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling and boating may be enjoyed directly from each chalet. Snorkel along the reefs and enjoy the myriad of colourful reef fish, fascinating corals and other marine life. Take a trip on a dhow and feel a great sense of history as the dhows are still built as they were in ancient times. Adjacent to the lodge is a saltwater mangrove with crystal clear waters which can be explored by boat or on foot. This ecosystem is made up of a fascinating chain of pioneering and sacrificial plants together with a huge array of crustaceans. Flocks of flamingo’s, local fish traps and stunning sunsets over the estuary make this a photographers dream.
