Kanana
The Okavango River creates the largest inland river delta in the world. The Okavango Delta is home to a breath-taking array of animals and flora. The various small islands in the clear waters are home to a wide number of birds, plants, and fascinating animals. On the adjacent floodplains, huge herds of elephant, buffalo, general game and predators roam free and unfenced.

Kanana Camp (Setswana for 'paradise') is located in the remote inner reaches of the Delta. The area is an excellent walking and mokoro area. By game viewing on foot and by mokoro, you do not have the noise of the vehicle and therefore will experience the bush in its true form. There will be just the sounds of the bush and your footfalls on the earth. The silence will help your ears to pick-up the previously unheard sounds of the bush usually hidden by the mechanical hum of the car. You are on their ground on their terms!

The 8 tents are built on stilts to insure a good view of the floodplains. Motorboat excursions to the Xo Lagoon are offered when the lagoon is in flood and game viewing in 4 x 4 vehicles is available. Kanana camp is one of the few camps in the Okavango Delta to have an exclusive heronry where many migratory water birds come to have their young from July onwards. This is a very important nesting site for these birds and one of the few in the Delta. A wide variety of game frequent the islands around Kanana camp including impala, lechwe, leopard, lion and elephant amongst others.

The rains fall in Angola from December through to March. The rains drain into the Kavango River, which enters Botswana near Shakawi. Trapped within fault lines, it spreads out in an ever-changing system of channels, lagoons and rivers, and slowly makes its way towards Maun. The floodwaters of this inland Delta are at their highest in winter, when they are needed most by the fauna and flora that inhabit the dry Kalahari Desert.
Lodges situated on islands and floodplains inside the Delta enjoy mokoro trips, power boat excursions on the larger rivers and walks on the islands. Wildlife here include antelope, elephant, hippo and and array of waterbirds.
On the outskirts of the Delta one finds the huge herds of game. Elephant, buffalo and predators. These are the Game Camps and activities are undertaken in special open safari vehicles.
